Selling Organs for Extra Cash: My Body, My Right?

I wasn’t looking to buy a kidney, I just happened upon it while trying to save my own ass.

I was looking for a pintacaritas, actually I had supposedly already looked for and hired one weeks ago when my wife, A.K.A. La Gringa, had initially asked the favor of me. Unfortunately, I forgot, until she called me from work this morning requesting the information. I admit, it was wrong, but instead of telling her I forgot, I made like I was fumbling through papers before telling her I must have left the info in my car. I bought a little extra time by telling her I was just getting ready to jump in the shower, but would call her back with all the details in no more than 20 minutes.

In no more than 2 minutes I had connected to Firefox and my Googling began. I’ve got to tell you, I was impressed with the results. I did not only find and hire a face painter, but I also found an awesome deal on a used, yet excellent conditioned, man’s kidney. Ha, to think they say men can’t shop!

I never thought about it before, but this odd, yet fascinating type of random, something for everyone, national internet advertising could really save a fellow some precious energy and time by not only decreasing alot of nasty search word guessing, but also a ton of navigational keystrokes. Bravo!

According to the ad, a 35 year old, non-smoking, non-drinking, foreign, Caucasian white male with light colored eyes, Type B blood, who is in excellent health is offering to sell his kidney, which by the way is in excellent condition, to Mexican clients for the low, low price of U.S. $250k.

Now, before you go running for your wallet, the clear eyed kidney man has a few conditions:

1) The operation must be performed in a top rated hospital either in the U.S. or Mexico.

2) All costs including and involving transportation, recuperation, medicines, etc. are to be paid by the buyer, in addition a mutually agreed monetary fine will be paid in case of failed surgery which is defined as: if the donor doesn’t come out quite right after the surgery or is in alot of pain, etc.

Monies will be paid and contracts signed before surgery.
Healthy, clear eyed, foreign Caucasian will answer all questions that are serious and respectful and would like you to know: His ad is not a game or a joke; it could save a life.

My initial reaction, although not overly intelligent was simply: W.T.F.?! Upon further analyzation and realising I couldn’t stop thinking about this unknown man and his kidney, I decided to send an email. You might call it crazy, but I am curious, I can’t help it. I haven’t recieved a response yet, but below I will list a few of my thoughts:

Was it necessary to state his kidney is from a white Caucasian male with light eyes? We’re not talking about sperm donation. Will a light eyed donor kidney work better than any other matched kidney, or is it just a bonus?

Why would he want to sell a kidney? I’ve seen alot of wierd things advertised for sale on the internet: toe nails, urine, blood, hair, dead skin and even virginity, but something about this kidney has triggered alot of thought and reflection in me.

Is he just a young guy who feels a kidney is a possible quick way to load of cash? Will he, after recuperating, buy a nice car, travel, and splurge on fine clothes? Once running out of money will he begin the selling of a spare cornea, finger, toe or slivers of his liver?

Is he a man in dire straits after being hit by the economic crisis and is desperate for cash? Will he use the money to save his home and feed his family?

Why would he choose Mexico? The sale of human organs is illegal in both countries. Does he think due to our history of corruption he has a better chance here? What about the money? U.S. $250,000 is alot of cash, it’s even more when you think of it in terms of Mexican national pesos. After investigating, I have found various other peple who have offered a kidney for sale. Quite frankly, this man seems to be overcharging. How did he decide his selling price? Did he investigate, is there a fair market value kidney database?

Lastly, I’ve been pondering the ethics and illegality of the whole issue. Do I or anyone have any right to prohibit this man from selling what is his? He is not selling a baby, a man, a woman. He’s not attempting to sacrifice himself and offering his heart or lungs? He’s not offering someone else’s kidney, it’s his and his alone.

The point I can’t help pondering is not only whether he is daring, desperate, or dumb, but if it really matters. Where do we draw the line or does a line even need to be drawn? What are the consequences of someone selling their own organs? Would health and self-preservation become second to financial stabilty and materialistic greed?

Please share your thoghts.

Woow... I’d like to know if he’s receiving requests from people concerning his offer!!!

a while ago, a network of people selling organs was arrested in Jordan, they were selling kidneys for 4 thousand JDs I believe, which makes around 2800 $... Now this tells us that ur boy over there is ambitious, way too ambitious...

Actually, I noticed his ad was cancelled for ethical reasons shortly after he responded to me.

His response was:

There are many ill people in Mexico, and many are VERY wealthy and they might be more interested in an organ from a health, foreign, clear- eyed man.

Straight to the point, but it looks like he will find another way to offer his kidney here in Mexico.

This mild in the craziness humans have done over the centuries
The body will only live a short time and if someone wants to part it out and live a better short life that thats their decision
We from the time of birth have others telling us how to, pray or ,live ,or eat or, any thing else that some other nut things is good for us
They can send you off by the million to die in a stupid war ,but god forbid you decide how to deal with your body
