God, Church, and parishioners of all ages: Please forgive us for running a devil induced drug raid on your Church last Saturday, August 1, and arresting Miguel Ángel ‘La Troca’ Beraza Villa. We honestly do respect religion, probably just as much as you and the narcos, I guess we just got a little carried away and lost our heads when we finally found ‘La Troca’, a.k.a. big ass meth/crystal/ice trafficker.
Although we did not fire a single shot and ran our operation with the greatest precision possible in order to protect the 250 parishoners, we realize now we have sinned. We promise to never ever do it again and are ready and willing to repent.
Sincerely,
S.S.P.- Federal Secretary of Public Security
The Mexican government has apologized to Roman Catholic officials and parishioners after storming a church during Mass to arrest a drug suspect.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the department said it respects religion. It apologized “for the circumstances under which the operation had to be carried out.”
Federal police arrested Miguel Angel Beraza , an alleged high-ranking lieutenant in La Familia drug cartel, during a church service in drug-plagued Michoacan state on Sunday.
Mexican Bishops protested the following day, saying “Mass is sacred and must be respected.”

The Church issued the following statement after the raid:
Hacemos una enérgica protesta ante la falta de respeto y violencia ejercida por las fuerzas responsables de garantizar la seguridad de todas las personas en nuestra Nación, principalmente en el estado de Michoacán, al irrumpir en un acto religioso, el sábado 1 de agosto en el momento en que se celebraba la Santa Misa, el acto sagrado más importante para los fieles católicos.
We make an energetic protest in front of the lack of respect and violence executed by the forces responsible for guaranteeing the security of all people in our nation, primarily in the state of Michoacan, to interrupt a religious act, Saturday August 1, in the moment of celebrating Holy Mass, the sacred act most important to all faithful Catholics.–José Leopoldo González González, CEM General Secretary
Los fines no justifican los medios utilizados en éste u otros casos. Nada explica este tipo de acciones dentro de un recinto religioso y menos en estos momentos donde México es señalado internacionalmente como un País inseguro y violento”.
The ends do not justify the means utilized in this and other cases. Nothing could explain these types of actions inside a relgious temple and even less in these moments where Mexico is known internationally as a violent and unsafe country.
-Auxiliary Bishop of Guadalajara
Come on, give me a break. I know the Church and State have been seperated, but really, has making a drug raid on a Saturday Mass ended the world as we know it? Have the federal police, in their sinful ways, pushed God even farther away from Mexico than He already is? Isn’t getting a dangerous drug trafficker off the streets not a legitimate end to an equally ligitimate mean?
El titular de la CEM señaló que en estos momentos la zozobra e incertidumbre asolan a nuestro País y expresó su esperanza en construir un México de paz, justicia y concordia.- José Leopoldo González González, CEM General Secretary.
At the same time José Leopoldo González González conveyed the very real truth that ‘In these moments anxiety and uncertainty plague our country’ and expressed his hopes for constructing a Mexico of peace, justice, and concordia.
Question: How the hell can we construct a Mexico full of peace, justice, and concordia when the bad guys inhibiting all the love and harmony are off limits as long as they’re with God?
Here’s the real deal: God’s gone AWOL for the time being, we’re on our own to clean up our own messes. Don’t take offense Church, really, just pass out the Hail Mary’s, spread some Hope and Love, and get over it.
