I may catch some heat for this; I`ve honestly tried to shake these horrible, politically incorrect feelings, but I can’t, I’m angry. For days now I’ve been bombarded by the Global, National, State, and Local media headline rantings of the unjust, shocking death of bedridden, 992 pound, Jose Luis Garza.

“Ooooh”, you might say. “992 pounds, dead, AND Mexican“? Any of those three words alone are juicy writings, but combined, Dear God, that really is an irresitable story for global news headlines. Now add the words “State Health Official Negligence” to the next headline and watch the nonsense spin around the globe a few more times. Give me a break!

Here’s the deal: Jose Luis Garza was a 47 year old man from Juarez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He was 992 lbs., bedridden, and a decided to follow a tried and true weight loss tecnique created by The World’s Heaviest Man, Manuel Uribe. The famous weight loss success did not, however, find it’s way to Mr. Garza. Shortly after appealing to a Mexican Television, receiving encouraging advice, kiwis, and pears from Uribe, he died of heart failure.

Family, friends, and loved ones have essentially claimed Mr. Garza was murdered by Nuevo Leon Health Officials. They were crushed further by the fact cremation of Mr. Garza’s body was denied due to Nuevo Leon not having an adequate sized oven, thus forcing them to wait four hours for a speciality coffin and extra large burial plot, before finally allowing him to rest in peace.

“If he had received support at the time he asked for it, he would still be with us,” said his brother Pedro Garza.

I have many personal issues and a strong, although unpopular, opinion regarding this hype. For starters, how is the death of the man a shock; did his family have no idea that being 992 pounds would reduce his life expectancy? Next, as for negligence, had his family, friends, and loved ones given Mr. Garza support before he became 992 pounds and bedridden, he would still be alive. Had they given him support by at least providing an adequate sized access to him, after he became 992 pounds and bedridden, emergency workers would not have lost precious time saving his life due to having to find construction workers, tools, and equipment to knock down an entire concrete wall, to get him from his bed, to where they could get him life saving treatment, he would still be alive. Mexican government officials are no stranger to neglect and abuse, but this claim, glides off even them with the same ease ducks repel water.

One might originally wonder why his family is so irate. The reason his death is considered injust and negligent is because the extra wide red carpet was not rolled out for Mr. Garza, as it was for the now famous, morbidly obese, yet much slimmer, Manuel Uribe. Why didn’t he recieve the same treatment, who knows. Maybe the media and press only require one morbidly obese charity case; the early bird gets the worm, Uribe won.

Manuel Uribe has lost an incredible amount of weight, I’m happy for him, he deserves, as every other human being, to live and be happy. He does not deserve a gold star for being FAT. I have watched the city officials scramble to find and rent cranes, lowboys, and semi-trucks to cater to Mr. Uribe’s dreams of seeing a lake and sharing an outside birthday dinner with his girlfriend. I’ve watched him schmooze with mayors and government officials over champagne, receive sponsership and publicity from Discovery, TLC, PEOPLE magazine, The Zone Diet, and many more. I have seen his interviews of joy introducing and sharing details of his pre-marital sex life with widowed, bride-to be, Claudia Solis; and lastly I have endured the latest global headline: “World’s fattest man, Manuel Uribe, to marry.” Are we there yet? Are we done? If not, wake me up when the insane bullshit ends, I can’t bare to watch anymore.

When the charities finish paying for his global news wedding, I’m sure the next announcement will be their desire for a lovechild, thus generating senseless headlines of Claudia Solis de Uribe and In Vitro Fertilization followed by the need for baby items and support for this new family, so devestated by Daddy’s tragic illness. His obesity is his obesity. Millions of people around the world have become ill and died self imposed deaths: drug addicts, alcoholics, anorexics where are all of the headlines? How did being REALLY FAT become special and deserving? Am I selfish, descriminate, hateful? I don’t think so. Headlines of needs, media, and neglect? Let me tell you about needs and neglect.

Needs define necessities. Picnics, cranes, lowboys, champagne, and celebrity schmoozing are not necessities. Obesity and neglect by Government Officials of any kind, are not issues of global headline news, but a sad fact of daily life in Mexico. If media news and global journalist would like to report on worthy stories of true Mexican’s in need who are being neglected by government officials, call me. I can show you senior citizens in the Sierra’s who don’t have food, running water, sewage, electricity, or medical care. I can show you children weakened and scarred by highly preventable illnesses, had they only been given a simple vaccine. I can show you a 4 year old blind girl who lost both eyes to a stray bullet; medics claim they could at least restore partial vision, but funds have not be reached. I can show you hundreds of small children who work on the streets, begging day and night; they wimper as they fall asleep hungry. None of them will ever have or even dream of having the amount of money or food it took to become 992 pounds or more. These are needs being neglected.

Some come on world.... What are you waiting for, you want to headline the news of my country’s needy..DO IT, but do it right. Keep it real, show truth, make a difference. If you want to make headlines of morbid curiousities, self neglect, and celebrity hype, that’s fine too, but leave the sensitive, important, international cases to true, worthy, needs, and move on to brighter blogging and magazine pastures like the Star and Ok!, where fat people wanting paid fixes, picnics and champagne truely are worthy of headlines.
