In response to the business and tourism sector of Ciudad Juarez and their plea for assistance, the United Nations, via two separate representatives, has announced it will not be sending Blue Helmets.
It is a very long process that additionally, to be honest, I do not see justifiable here in Mexico.- Antonio Mazzitelli, United Nations Drug and Crime representative for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean-El Norte
The High Commissioned United Nations, Representative of Mexico for Human Rights Alberto Brunori was in agreement with his Drug and Crime counterpart stating the Juarez business owners, their, ‘cry for attention and the subsequent solicitation of United Nations’ troops was unfounded as the Blue Helmets only intervene in war zones.
Although there are more than 8500 soldiers and Federal Police patrolling the streets of Juarez, more than 2000 murders, averaging seven per day, have been recorded in the first 10 months of this year.
