Mexican Photos, Porn, Prison, and Plots: A Lesson of what Not to Do while Visiting Mexico

On January 8, 2009, Mr. Edward Chrisman, 88, of Arlington Washington and his grandson, Gary Chrisman Jr, 40 of Yuma, Arizona were arrested and charged in Los Algodones, Baja California, Mexico for attempted child pornograpghy. The charges were later reduced to corruption of a minor.

Algodones is just across the border from Yuma, Ariz., and it’s known for cut-rate dental and medical services. American retirees, spending the winter in the desert sun, flock across the border daily. -HeraldNet

Let me begin by stating there is alot of controversy and even more “he said, she said” involved in this case. Edward Chrisman, a longtime resident of Arlington, was wintering in Yuma when he decided to take a trip across the border with his grandson, Gary Chrisman Junior. Gary Chrisman, a Yuma security guard, had been travelling across the border for the previous few days for dental work.

Gary Chrisman Jr. stopped at an Algodones convenience store, Novedades Jasmine, for a soda and while there, asked the owner’s 13 year old daughter and a 17 year old female store employee who were tending the store, if he could take their picture. He’d been taking photos of Mexican culture all day with a new camera he recieved for Christmas. The girls granted permission and he voluntarily paid them $200 pesos. He snapped headshots of the two fully-clothed girls and left the store. Edward Chrisman never even went into the store.

Mexican Photos, Porn, Prison, and Plots: A Lesson of what Not to Do while Visiting Mexico

The legal issue is what Gary Chrisman Jr. said to the two girls in the convenience store upon returning to Algodones a few days later.

The girls claim the photo was taken on January 5th, 2009. On January 8, 2009 Chrisman Jr. returned to Jasmine’s, again offering money in exchange for photos of the girls, nude photos. The girls, refused, which apparently did not stop Chrisman Jr. from writing his name and telephone number on a small paper and giving it to the girls, in case they changed their mind. Before leaving, as if in afterthought, he warned the girls by flashing a knife not to disclose his financial offer, and left the store.

The mother/owner arrived to the store, just as Chrisman was driving away on January 8, to find the girls visibly shaken. She reportedly called the police and presented the paper with Chrisman Jr’s name and Yuma, Arizona telephone number as evidence. By the time the Chrisman’s were leaving the dentist office, the police were waiting. Both girls stated Mr. Edward Chrisman had never entered the store, nor had they seen him elsewhere.

The Chrismans are about to enter their fourth week behind bars while family members carry on a publicity campaign declaring they are innocent targets of an attempted shakedown. Shannon Perkins, sister of Gary Chrisman Jr., said Mexican officials twice suggested that charges would be dropped if family members came up with thousands of dollars in bribe money.- Arizona Republic News

Who do we believe? First, I would like to say, I personally beleive Mr. Edward Chrisman should be released. He is almost 90 years old, widowed after 63 years of marriage, church loving,a war vetern, and as evidence and testemonies prove was simply caught up, as an innocent bystander, in his grandson’s apprehension. Having caught pneumonia, he is ill, frail, disorientated and alone in a cold, hard, Mexican cell.

Mexican Photos, Porn, Prison, and Plots: A Lesson of what Not to Do while Visiting Mexico

Now, as for Chrisman Jr, I cannot fault the Mexican police for investigating. Although no pornography was found on his camera, I find it odd that a man living seven miles from the Mexican border, in a town which is made up of more than a 54% latino population, would feel the need to seek young girls across the border, pay them, and leave his name and telephone number all in the name of cultural photography.

While I fully admit, Mexican police, especially border town police have been known to look for payoffs from tourists, you need to know about border towns to understand my confusion.

Let me give you the example of the Laredo-New Laredo, U.S.-Mexican border towns. On the New Laredo, Mexican side you will find both Mexicans and Americans, people speak Spanish, but english is readily available, and we pay for goods and services in pesos. It is generally rather dirty, but always busy with tourist and nationals crossing both sides of the bridge looking for bargains.

On the Laredo, Texas, United States side, you will find both Americans and Mexicans as well, but the Mexican’s, apart from the Mexicans crossing to shop, are called “Latino-Americans” or “Americans of Hispanic origin“. You will still hear mostly Spanish, although English is also spoken, the cars are much nicer, the city much cleaner clean, the gas is much cheaper, the police don’t ask for bribes, and you will pay for all purchases in in U.S. dollars.

Do you see where I’m heading? There is no time warp. Crossing the U.S. border into Mexico does not transform you into te ancient, mystical indeginous land of our ancestors worthy of cultural photos, at least not for someone who lives on the border; you see the same type of people on either side.

As for taking photos of young children, that in itself I have a problem with. Imagine if I, here on Instablogs, in the name of cultural enthusiasm struck up a conversation with someone’s young daughter via live chat. Imagine if I offered her money for photos, imagine your reaction if you found my personal email and telephone on her computer. I won’t even ask your reaction, if after all that, although it was via internet, thousands of miles away, I offered her more moeny for nudity.

If some stranger, man or woman, came to my town and starting taking pictures of my daughter, paying or not, there would be hell to pay; I can guarentee not only that I would not be understanding of the situation, but that I, Oscar, without a doubt, would be the one behind bars in a Mexican jail. There are somethings, one just doesn’t do; exploiting children is one of them.

While I do not feel Chrisman Jr should be prosecuted without a thorough investigation, the case is definitly not clear. Mexican law has the obligation to not only follow up these claims, but also the right to hold the accused for up to fourty days while doing so. They have not been offered bail for two reasons: the case involves minors and the charge carries a more than two year sentence if the accused is found guilty.

We have a very different judicial system here. It is both slow and aged. There is no trial by jury, but one judge assigned to hundreds of cases. There is also no such thing as innocent until proven guilty here; quite the contrary, one is guilty until proven innocent.

I pray there is a prompt intervention for Mr. Edward Chrisman and I hope Gary Jr is found innocent. I also hope that tourist take into thought what an extremly delicate case this is and why it must be investigated.

There are many places where tourist can take cultural photos throughout our nation, but please THINK before snapping shots of children. Think of what you would do in the same situation.

I wish I could say Gary Chrisman jr was innocent, but he beat up my sister, robbed her, kidnapped her, drugged her (he is a know meth addict) and raped her, and that Mexican jail is exactly where he needs to be.
The Yuma Co. Sheriffs dept. wouldn’t even question him after the incodent, and we were all afraid something would happen like this.
It wasnt a matter of just taking photos of children, it was intimidating and threatening those young girls they had to take their clothes off, or else, and the photos were of them naked.
My prayers are now with those poor girls, and my sister!
”Jay” is a violent criminal, and is exactly where he needs to be!
I dont know about his grandpa. If he is innocent or guilty, but no male of any age teen or old man has the right to sexually abuse any child or adult period!
”Jay” is a rapist! And I hope he rots in that jail!

I am deeply saddened with what has happened to your sister and your family.
If this is the case and Yuma will not hear you, take your story elsewhere: Keep taking it until it IS heard; take it to Los Algodones if necessary.

Sexual Abuse CAN NOT be tolerated, but it MUST be told, SCREAMED to the four winds if necessary, to be punished.

Thank you Oscar. My hands are shaking as I write this, and there are tears in my eyes. Yesterday my sister called the Yuma County Sheriffs Department to try to get them to bring up her call log from her calls to them 2004-2006. They wouldnt listen to her. She told them, like she did those 2 years, he WOULD do this again, and they were HELPING him, by not investigating. They transfered her call to the city police. Since it happened to her in the county, the city police were out of their jurisdiction, and couldnt help. She also called a Yuma T.V. station, and hopefully they will call her back.
We dont know how he got a job as a security job. He is FOR SURE a meth addict!!!!!! She saw him use it with her eyes! I guess such things assault, extortion, kidnapping, drug use, drugging someone, threats of killing the victim, breaking and entering, theft, and RAPE are not illegal in Yuma like it is elsewhere.
She wrote a letter to the owner of Jasmines in Algadonez telling them that she is on there side, and wants to help, and she told them to take the letter to the Algadonez police, who she tried also to call yesterday. The Yuma police gave her the number, so in that case its probably actually the phone number at a payphone instead. They are
so incompetant in Yuma! There was no answer with that number all day!
We would love to talk to his judge!
Years of therapy have not helped her heal, but hearing that he is in jail is the beginning. We have prayed to God for justice, and I guess He does things in His time. You seem very wise with your posts. Do you have any suggestions on what we should do to help keep this pervert behind bars?
Gracias mi amigo!

Oscar -

I was very interested to find your blog and the account of this incident. The news reports in the United States were only what the reporters were told by Gary Chrisman Jr’s family, and the family’s story seemed strange to me. (Of course, they were relying on Jr’s statements to them.)

I live near Los Algodones (on the US side) and recognized three things about Jr’s activities that were unusual for American cross-border visitors. First, Jr did not leave his car on the US side and walk across into Los Algodones as almost everyone does. Second, he was carrying pesos, which is very odd because all business in the town is conducted in US dollars. Third, as you pointed out, there is no significant ”cultural” difference at the border and therefore no reason to take ”cultural” photos.

I am very sorry for the tragic experience Desert Star’s family had with Jr - her messages to you appear to be truthful and sincere. Jr’s character will be an important part of the case against him.

I do not know any more than has been reported by you and in the US media, and I hope that Jr is innocent, however if he is not, then I expect that the Mexican judge will make the right decision. I do think that Jr’s grandfather had nothing to do with any of this, and if Jr is guilty and put his grandfather in this situation, then the grandfather is also a victim. (The grandfather returned home to Washington state yesterday.)

Here is a message that I posted last month when the grandfather was released from jail:

”I live in the California desert near the small Mexican border town of Los Algodones and have been there many times. It’s safe to walk across into the town itself, but I would not drive and would definitely not travel away from the town because that requires a visa. Back in September I parked on the US side and walked across while a Mexican family I knew drove through the checkpoint in a car with California plates. The Mexican customs official was going to impound their car (no Mexican plates) unless they paid a ”fine” of $150, and since I was making the police nervous I had to leave while my friends settled their ”violation.” (Evidently the police at the border leave Americans alone because the whole economy of Los Algodones depends on good press in Yuma.) Afterwards the mother of the family said to me, ”What can you do? There is so much corruption in Mexico.” They were driving to Guadalajara and were going to take the long route because they were afraid of bandits on the direct highway.”

”I have to say, though, that giving Ed Chrisman’s grandson the benefit of the doubt, he was incredibly naive. If Gary Chrisman Jr doesn’t speak Spanish and gave a Mexican women $25 (a huge sum) while pointing at her daughters with his camera, she is naturally going to think that he had something in mind besides photos of their faces. The mother wanted more money and he refused, so she got her revenge by complaining to the police. I’m not surprised...”

The truth will ultimately come out, and if Jr is guilty, then fortunately the two Mexican girls did not also become victims. It is a fact, however, that the US coverage of this incident was biased. As far as I could find out, no US news reporter ever made any effort to find out the case against Jr, but instead merely repeated the family’s story. Not a good way to treat a good neighbor.

Sincerely,

Desert Jack

Thank You for joining in Desert Jack. I have been looking all over the web to look for the ”other side of the story”, and finding anything out about the girls is hard. Its all about that ”poor” Chrisman family. I do feel bad about the Grandpa, But as you have seen I cant find any compassion about Jay. My sister has horrible depression, no self esteem, hates herself...I assure you everything about her story is true, and I doubt Jay changed any for the better since the last time she saw him. People like that get real gutsy when they keep getting away with bad things.
I have learned a little about the victims, umm the REAL victims.
The mom and 13 year old live in Yuma from what I understand, and the mom just owns the novelty, not convenience store like what were supposed to think, but a souvenier type shop. And I found someone who has spoken to the girls, and they speak ”perfect English”. I have yet to find out much about the 17 year old, but Im trying.
Im sure there is stuff going on there in these hard economic times in Los Algadones, but I sincerely believe there was no misunderstanding, I believe the girls with all my heart.
I have to keep asking like before.
Why did he go there TWICE? for a soda of all things in a NOVELTY store? After a Dental Appointment (novacaine).
Why did he give his real name and phone number to a kid?
He is very violent, trust me. He is a schitzophrenic who was seeing a psychiatrist thru Human Services in Yuma. A little backround records pulling down there in Algadones or Mexicali would show his psychiatric history with a warrant, I think.
He is a sick man. Im happy he’s off the streets.
In complete honesty,

(Desert Star - it’s very sad that one person can cause so much pain in the lives of others, and while your sister did not receive justice, perhaps justice will now be done.)

Turns out I was wrong - I did find an unbiased account of this incident on the website of the main Arizona newspaper, ”The Arizona Republic,” published in Phoenix.

The owner of the store and her daughter are American citizens and live in Yuma, Arizona. So to change the picture a little, an American citizen in Mexico called the local police for help when her daughter was approached by another American for immoral purposes. The police responded and arrested the man - rather than looking for a bribe from a ”rich American,” the police were providing protection to an American and her daughter.

The grandfather should not have been arrested - no one on either side of the border disagrees on this point. However, it appears that the one primarily responsible for his ordeal is Ed Chrisman’s own grandson. Much easier for the family to blame the Mexican police and judicial system for the old man’s suffering when, if the grandson is guilty, the fault lies mainly with the grandson for callously putting his grandfather in harm’s way.

(sorry - here’s the rest of my post)

–In an interview with ”The Arizona Republic” last week, the 13-year-old girl’s mother offered an entirely different account. The mother, who filed the criminal complaint, said she and her daughter are not greedy or corrupt Mexicans, but U.S. citizens who live in Yuma and filed the police report out of fear.

–”This is the truth,” the girl’s mother concluded, her eyes welling. ”My daughter is afraid. . . . And all the lies keep coming” in news stories.

–The mother’s version of the event: The Chrismans first visited on Jan. 5 while her daughter was tending the shop with two other women. The mother said Gary Chrisman entered the store alone and took some normal pictures with permission, then said, ”Without clothes, I’ll pay more.” When the girls refused, the girl’s mother said, the visitor displayed a knife and said things would go bad if the girls told anyone. She added that the man wrote his name and phone number on a sheet of paper, telling the girls to call if they had a change of heart.

–She said her daughter was shaken that day as she told of the incident.

–On Jan. 8, she said, Chrisman returned and again offered to pay for photos without clothing. ”My daughter told him, ’No, and get out of here.’ ”

–The girl’s mother said she arrived in her car as the men were driving away. She followed, calling police on her cellphone.

–As a businesswoman who relies partly on tourism, she said she has no motive to fabricate such a story. She added that her daughter remains fearful and has been traumatized by media coverage.

–”They say I’m telling lies, but police have a page with his name and number on it,” she added.

–Accounts of what happened in Los Algodones merge on one important point: Edward Chrisman did not enter the store.

–The girl’s mother said she has no idea why the octogenarian was arrested and does not believe he should be in jail.

Ed Chrisman is home now, with memories of a terrible experience. Our hearts go out to him. But it is interesting that there does not seem to be similar outrage that Gary Jr. remains in jail in Mexico. Perhaps that is where he should be.

Thank you Jack. I’m really hoping the truth comes out.
You should see the changes in my sister since ”Jay’.
She was once a very popular girl, who loved to joke around, and make people laugh. She loved life, and was a real go getter. She was very athletic
She was placed on antidepressants that only made her gain alot of weight, and made her a hypoglycemic. She is now a work a holic with only a couple of friends. She doesnt like to deal with people she doesn’t know.
I hope ”Jay” is learning that sexual assault is not a joke. The victim lives with it, and the memories the rest of their life.
I hope he lives thru his ordeal in that jail, and has the nightmares, and ”feels different” than other men. And that he has to wake up, put on his shoes, face his day, and go to work like my sister does.
I just want justice.

I am very happy Mr. Ed Chrisman is home and safe, as for Mr. Gary, Jr., . In my opinion, ”corrupt” town cops, aren’t going to stand up to U.S. senators, embassey, governors and more if they didn’t have some solid reason to continue holding the man for more time and judgement.

I also find it incredible that no one in American press has even thought about the possibility of this man, Gary, being guilty.

God forgive them, if one day, one of their daughters, grand-daughters, wife, sister, niece, or any other women they know should face a similar experience.

The media has played juror, judge, and executioner against these young girls.

Time will only tell. One can never hide from the truth, forever.

I am glad those ”corrupt” Mexican authorities are upholding the law.
I am proud of them. They’re doing what the American cops wouldn’t do. Arresting and holding a criminal!
Oh poor Jay, ”sleeping on a wet concrete floor with rats and cockroaches. Eating animal entrails.” Thats whats out there on the web.
So what if he is. If that’s the punishment is in Los Algadones or Mexicali, then why should he go to a ”country club Martha Stewart” jail because he is a rich American?
If you send in emails up there to the Washington state newspaper against Jay, I read on another site, they pull it. www.heraldnet.com. Editor Debra Smith seems to be a bigtime Chrisman family friend. Try it. They will pull it. Lets make Jay look like a victim, the sleezebag that he is that Loves snorting meth, and raping women!
I wish they would test the handwriting on that slip of paper. I wish they would look for his fingerprints on it too! No man should give a teenage girl his phone number unless its to have her babysit or something.
Lets see what American laws he’s broken:
Extortion. Threats of bodily harm. Displaying a weapon. Contributing to the delinquency of minors. Sexual harassment. Child molestation. Coercion. Trespassing. And God knows what else!
He has done this before. He probably did it many times. But the Yuma County Sheriffs Department could not be bothered.
Im glad Ed Chrisman is home. He is just another Jay Chrisman victim! I hope he disinherits his miserable example of a human being that his Grandson is, and finds some peace. And can find a way to enjoy life again.
I also hope those girls can some day, some way enjoy life again. I feel horrible for them. Not many are on their side. But I am. I believe them. I know for sure, because I have seen Jay’s aftermath for myself.

Oscar & Desert Star -

I contacted a member of the news media in the state of Washington who has met the Chrisman family there. (I won’t identify the person because our communication was private.) The person was not aware of the full story of the incident in Los Algodones as reported by the ”Arizona Republic,” and told me that it had been hard to get information at that end. (I believe the person meant that it had been hard to get information from the Chrisman family.) Also, the person indicated that the family appears to have some doubts about Gary Jr.

I believe that Gary Jr.’s third court appearance is scheduled for this Friday, 8 May, in Mexicali. Oscar - you may know how to find out the results from Mexican news sources. I don’t because my Spanish isn’t good enough, but I could pass the report on to the US media.

Another person who is interested in this case is ”Anna Conda” in Yuma. So I will send her the link to the Instablogs website.

Hey Desert Jack. I really apperciate your help bigtime.
This means more than you know. I want the truth out. I want people to know both of the sides, and decide for themselves.
Including Jay’s family. They should evaluate his behavior. His outbursts. His demands of doing it his way, or else. And think it over. His behavior speaks for itself.
I would like to discuss this I.M. sometime with you. I dont know much about computers. I’ve never been at a site like this before. But after seeing what Jay did to those girls I am screaming the truth, like Oscar mentioned earlier, the best way I can.
Not knowing much about computers (I hate admitting that) I think I messed up friend invite. I’ve been running on nearly no sleep, and it’s catching up. I cant figure out how to fix my goof, and need your help once again. :-)
Can you send me invite? There is so much I want to say.
I am praying for jsutice come this Friday.

I don’t think Instablogs has IM (Instant Message) service. Anyway, I can’t find it, just regular messaging which is the same as email. I received your ”friend invite” and am now listed on your Instablogs page, so that’s not a problem. To send a private message, you click on the person’s name, and when you are transferred to the Instablogs page, you click ”Send Message.”

I read the article by Reverend Truth, and there can’t be any doubt that what you are both saying is accurate. We like to think that the police (and other public officials) will do their job, but I know from my own experience that this isn’t always the case. If there is not satisfactory progress, sometimes the only way to move the situation along is to find out what the person is supposed to be doing according to his or her own department guidelines, and then take the matter to a higher level. In other words, a police officer, just like any other worker, doesn’t want to get into trouble with his or her boss.

Now that Ed Chrisman, the grandfather, is back home in Washington state, his story is over except for the bad memories. What happens to Gary Jr. now is going to depend on what Gary Jr. did in Los Algodones, and since his case is no longer linked to his grandfather, Gary Jr. won’t get any ”spill-over” sympathy. American officials intervened on behalf of the grandfather because they felt the old man should not have been arrested, and Mexican authorities agreed and let the grandfather go. But you will notice that no American officials have tried to get Gary Jr. out, and that tells me that they think that the Mexican authorities may have a case against him.

I did post some messages at HeraldNet - same ones as here. And am watching for more news stories.

Desert Star and Desert Jack:
I am sorry I have not been around much lately, I DO care..

Things have been a bit crazy here, first with spring break (17 days) and then 1 week of school and an almost equal amount of influenza lock down.

I have been trying to find more info in Mexican news and blogs and have come up very empty handed. I am also trying to find out if his trial will in fact be held tomorrow as there is, from what I understand, a bit of a back log on cases (at least in many juzgados in the nation) due to the fact that court houses were also closed for a great part of the flu scare.

I will continue seeking info on my end.

The following was originally posted on April 11, 2009. Here it is again as a comment to the preceeding blogs...

This artical is primarily concerning a blogger by the name of Desert Star and her posts about a fellow by the name of Gary Chrisman, Jr. A good number of readers have been following the Chrisman story and the charges of attempted child porn against him, and some have voiced a wide variety of viewpoints concerning his “innocence”. It may be worth mentioning that Desert Star’s blogs are definitely worth reading for additional references concerning Chrisman’s character.

Let me start by identifying myself. I am a good friend of Desert Star and family. The father is one of the nicest people one would ever want to meet — quiet and pleasant. The mother, very outgoing and caring. And Desert Star’s sister, a pure pleasure to have as a friend. I’ve known this family for close to 10 years. I’ve seen their ups and their downs. But I can’t keep quiet about the “Chrisman issue”. And here’s why...

A lot of the opinions I’ve read concerning Chrisman’s supposed “innocence” are just that... OPINIONS, unfounded primarily because they’re made by people who believe only what they want to believe simply because they weren’t present to witness what truly happened. I’m especially bothered by the fact that when someone who has had a personal experience with such an individual comes forward with eye-popping credibility, the unfounded opinionators quickly discounts them, and for what reason? None that I can see. Now, I can and will add validity to Desert Star’s sister’s first hand experience of Chrisman’s character. For starters, one does not conjure up such details out of sheer whimsey, and secondly, I have seen the aftermath of the destruction this girl has suffered. And when you consider the fact that there is really no one she could have turned to only gives more victory to the offender. Desert Star’s sister has come to the conclusion that the police just can’t be bothered.

I, myself, have never met Chrisman personally, but would LOVE to have the opportunity to do so, strictly for the sake of having a few words with him or another reason why. Truth is, I only have the first-hand accounts relayed to me by Desert Star and primarily by her sister. I probably should back up a little and give a quick back-ground on the unfortunate encounter that Desert Star’s sister had with Chrisman. First, she had a boyfriend (I shall refer to him as “Poindexter”, that’s a nice nerdy name!). I blame him for what Chrisman did to Desert Star’s sister, and here’s why: First of all, I never really approved of Poindexter because he was way too whishy-whashy and was very much a mamma’s boy. Nevertheless and despite my advice to the contrary, she looked past all that and stuck by him thick and thin. Then it happened, Poindexter introduced her to his friend, Chrisman. Now, the fact that they were friends is indicative of the calibre of people that Chrisman preyed upon... the naive, the overly-trusting — or, to use more blatant titles... the clueless, the simpletons, etc etc... Over time, she started seeing things about Chrisman that horrified her... his drug use, his stealing, etc. Eventually, Chrisman found his opportunity, and he violated her in the worst possible ways to the point where not even the devil himself would ever consider doing. To further add to the trauma, when she sought the emotional support and rescue of her bonehead boyfriend Poindexter, he offered her NONE! Why? “Oh, Chrisman is my friend, he would never do anything that horrible” was basically his response. Needless to say, his lack of support and help was what drove the final nail into the coffin as far as their boyfriend/girlfriend status was concerned. In addition, the intensity of her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is what I would consider to be beyond repair.

And I (along with other friends) got to hear it all first hand. Hours and hours on the phone, listening to her cry uncontrollably and relating in full graphic detail everything that happened. The feeling of being unable to help is not an easy one to deal with. We can only hope that justice would prevail and that the truth will set you free. I’ve always felt that these are the kind of actions and behaviors that never go unpunished. And eventually, people of Chrisman’s character always come crashing down from their self-appointed high-and-mighty status. And sure enough, it happened. Chrisman is now sitting in a Mexicali prison on charges of attempted child porn — FORCED child porn, no less. Unlike those of you who think that this is nothing more than an international scandal, I do sincerely believe that Chrisman’s behavior finally caught up with him. And even if Chrisman’s cold black heart doesn’t absorb whatever lessons prison has to offer, there will be no denying The Day when he goes before The Lord God Almighty and makes himself accountable for all that he has done in his life.

To Desert Star’s sister, my prayers are that God be with you, I wish you the very best, and always know that I’ll always be here for you.

And as for Chrisman, if you should happen to be reading this, I have only one question for you... “How is “doing things YOUR way” working out for you now?”

And by the way, to those of you who are so prejudiced against the Mexican people... First of all, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Remember, we are ALL God’s people. Then there’s the fact that if you do a little homework, you’ll find that the child-porn victims are actually Hispanic Yuma, Arizona citizens. Yes, the mother owns the business across the border in Mexico. Does THAT make a difference in your viewpoints now? For some of you, maybe. And still for others, probably not at all. But let me be clear about this, to those of you who call yourselves Americans and have been acting hateful, you have been lashing out at a mother and child from the good Ol’ U.S. of A. This is disgraceful! Dont speak out until you have ALL the facts!

Open your Bibles to Romans 6:23... “For the wages of sin is death”... What constitutes sin? Other than the obvious (rape, drug use, child porn...), how about prejudice and hatred? If you look at the latin origins of the word PREJUDICE, it’s meaning is to pre judge with minimal to no background knowledge of the person or subject matter. Matthew 7:1... “Judge not, lest ye be judged”... So just remember this: 1 Corinthians 13:5... “So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love”...

Reverend Truth, Thank You for being here online with me as well as in the real world. You have been a great friend a long time!
And Oscar and Desert Jack, I thank you as well for your kind words, open minds, care, and support as well.
I’m sorry I haven’t been here in a few days. Between working alot, and taking care of a friend who got out of the hospital, time has been scarce..
Well, today was to be Jay’s big day, and I’m really hoping the Judge dished up a proper punishment.
If the courts are backed up, that wont hurt my feelings making him wait!
I can’t help but wonder how many people Jay has hurt over the years.
Most recently 4 lives are in ruins.
2 kids, one old man, and a mom.
My sister will never ”get over it” as many well intentioned people have suggested she do. That’s not possible, nor is ”forget it, and go on with your life.”
When she did get away from Chrisman there were some very serious questions that ran thru her mind:
Was she pregnant? Though Jay raped her using her so called boyfriend’s condoms (for no evidence if she went to the hospital, which she didn’t, she fled with her life.) Those can break, or not work when not used correctly.
If she was, what would she do? She doesn’t believe abortion is the right thing to do, but what if it was a boy who looked like and ended up just like Jay.
What if her gave her a venerial disease? What if he gave her HIV or AIDS? Thats attempted manslaughter! She DID see him ”shoot up” and he did it like an old pro, and the needle was passed around in a group at the crack house he forced her to take him to if she didn’t want Jay to kill her little dog!
I am glad his Grandpa, who is a victim got out, but I really hope the judge doesn’t let Jay off easy.
If you guys find out anything, please let me know right away.
Good point that the media isn’t caring as much now about Jay’s future in Mexicali. I’m glad he’s not riding the coat tails of the sympathy the public had for his Grandpa.

I’ve been watching the US news - there hasn’t been a word. The family’s campaign to get the grandfather out worked, but looks like Gary Jr’s on his own. The State Dept doesn’t get involved in the merits of a case, they’re only concerned that the correct process is being followed.

It sure does seem quiet about him out there. I cant find out anything except the threats and bashings at topix.com against anyone who talks bad about Jay.
It makes me mad. There are people out there who think ”lawsuits” need to be made against those of us who speak the truth against ”Gary’s good name”.
I sure hope all the truth comes out against him. I wish the court would ask me to come foward about his character.
Thanks guys for keeping me posted. This helps me alot. And I really appreciate it.

I have been unable to find ANY new info on him with exception to a blog by Mexicali Maryann stating basic info and leading one to believe that now that Mr. Edward has been released, not many have continued the fight for further release of Gary, Jr.

I read the last comments on topix.com - there are people who don’t THINK period. In other words, the mouth or the keyboard is running but nothing comes out but garbage. People like that are not interested in a discussion, they just want to get a reaction. Also, the last person on topix.com doesn’t know anything about the law. Truth is a perfect defense to a charge of libel or slander. (If you don’t have a ”good name” in the first place, you don’t have anything to lose.)

As for Gary Jr, there have been no more US news reports. So even if the family is still saying that he is innocent (they know him and seem to have their doubts), no reporters on this side of the border are taking up his cause.

Here in Riverside County, all court proceedings are posted immediately on the Internet. This means that if a civil or criminal case is pending, the public can always find out exactly the status. Most US jurisdictions are not yet on the Internet, and this is also probably true of Mexico, so the outcome of Gary Jr’s case is unlikely to be known unless the Mexican media reports the story and the US media picks it up.

Looks like Gary Jr is just another defendant in the Mexican judicial system, and the Mexican authorities are proceeding according to law. The flip side of the family’s accusations of ”corruption” is that the Mexican authorities are going to be very careful that Gary Jr’s case is handled exactly right. And that may result in a conviction when otherwise he might have been able to work out some other arrangement, which is also the process in the US legal system. (US criminal cases are usually settled through a plea bargain, not a jury trial.) Remember the saying, ”Be careful what you wish for - you might get it.”

Thanks for keeping me posted, guys. Im sorry I haven’t been around much. Between work, and helping my friend with his recovery, things have been busy.
I like what you said about Topix, Jack. Seems like anyone who had anything intelligent, or open minded, got bashed to pieces.
One Mexican guy was standing up for another guy who was very hateful about Mexicans, and ripping apart someone who was standing up for Mexicans, and kept calling her a racist. I dont quite understand that... I dont need to be there, my mouth would get me in alot of hot water. All I can do is tell what I know, and be truthful about it, and if they want to haul me into court, well so be it. Maybe the Chrisman family would like to pay for my sister’s care. She is never going to be like she was. And that’s really a shame. She was so funny, popular, and down to earth, and liked everybody. Now she has so many walls up, nobody can get thru them.
Im glad Jay is still in jail. That whole part of the country is a little safer as long as he is off the streets.
I hope he stays in for the maximum sentence. He got caught with this case, so God only knows how many victims he has, and how long he did this sort of thing. I want him to pay for everyone he has hurt.
Let me know when you hear anything.
And thank you guys so-o-o much for writing back.
Sincerely,
Desert Star

Hey guys.
I have been trying to find anything out there about Jay. There is nothing that I could find.
Have you guys seen anything?
I wonder if the Chrisman money has shut off everything...
This seems so weird, it’s like he totally disappeared.

I have not found ANYTHING in mexican or american papers, blogs, or groups...

I’m sure if things were looking good for his release, it would be reported all over the u.s.

I don’t think money will cover his tracks, at least not here, and it doesn’t look like in the u.s. either.

The story about Gary Jr. (Jay) has completely disappeared from the US news media. Since there is no news in Mexico either, I think that the story is finished and all that is left is for Jay to spend some years in jail in Mexicali.

This is a good lesson for any American who thinks he can go to Mexico and do whatever he wants. If you break the laws of another country, you will pay the penalty in that country. Family money won’t help, particularly if the family starts out by accusing authorities in the other country of corruption. Obviously, the Mexican authorities were not looking for a bribe, but only wanted to bring justice to the victims.

I live in a small remote town in the eastern desert of Riverside County, and people here have been very upset for the past two and a half weeks. Back on Thursday, 4 June, sheriff’s deputies distributed a flyer saying that the County was about to put a Sexually Violent Predator here, for his last year of treatment and supervision. He is being released from the State Mental Hospital in Coalinga (for mentally ill sex criminals) after nine years, and before that he was incarcerated in the state prison. He was convicted of four violent sexual crimes against young women and a child, and people here are outraged. I’ve been to court a number of times in the past two weeks to stop the predator from coming here, and last Thursday I met with the criminal court judge and several attorneys in the city of Riverside, 120 miles west of here. The decision to put the predator in our town is legal and must be carried out, however, it actually might not happen. The property the County wants to use for a house for the predator is not a legal parcel, which means that it cannot be developed until the status is changed, and that could take several months. (I know this because I own the property directly across the highway, and the predator would end up being my neighbor!) The judge’s order states that the predator must be released by 1 July, and since I stopped the County from developing the property for him at this time, the County may have no choice but to put the predator somewhere else. (I’m sorry for whoever ends up being his neighbor, but the plan to put the predator in a small town where everyone knows each other is not going to work, either for him or for us.)

By the way, the name of our local newsletter is ”The Desert Star.”

Thanks Oscar and Desert Jack for the update.
I imagine when Jay gets out, and sees his shrink awhile, that someday we might hear from him, if he gets curious one day and types in his name on a computer, or one of his friends sees this, and either will start screaming his ”innocence”.
I’d do it.(check my nname out) I’d want to know what the world thought of me. I dont know if he’s that bright though...
I guess I will do like I have over the years, and periodically type in his name and see what pops up. Sometime I will be in Los Algadones and do some checking. I have friends there. They move alot, and dont have phones, so it’s easiest to just ask where they are when I’m in town. Usually they find me first.
Jack, I am very sorry to hear that they want to put that pervert in your town.
Maybe I’m too ”old school” and maybe my thoughts about people like that may seem cruel and heartless, maybe I should not even be saying how I feel about people like that. Please dont think I’m some nut for what I say, but:
How does someone like that get out of the nuthouse?
Why haven’t people like that been castrated? Im sure the victims or their families would LOVE to have the opportunity to do that for the state FOR FREE!
Do the ”experts” really feel these kind of people can be rehabilitated?
In my opinion these sickos think that if they get away with it,they can keep doing it, because they will keep getting away with it.
They may get released, and they stop their punishment, but victim’s punishment, and their family’s punishment never goes away. It feels like 24/7 hell...
Let me know what happens. I care what happens in your town bigtime.
I know in my tiny hometown, if they wanted to drop off a deviant like that, that my towns people would make his arrival less than welcoming, and our ”Good Ol Boys” would make him leave kinda quickly. Jay would not have gotten away with what he did back home.
I wish there was something I could do to help you. If you think of anything, just ask.
And I think it’s cool what your towns newsletter is called. :-)
Let me know how things turn out.
