Mexico :
Once mainly a smuggling corridor for drugs heading to the United States, Mexico is grappling with the effects of a fast-rising addiction rate as relatively cheap versions of cocaine and methamphetamine find a market south of the border.

So true.
Although the American consumption is what is causing the drug war over territory, drugs obviously flow thru and become dispursed in Mexico along the country long route.
Calderon is trying to push a new law that will decriminalize personal possession of cocaine, heroin, meth, and merijuana, IF the user who is caught submits to treatment.. This would help aid the addictions, and free the courts and police to focus on the ”big fish”

I think you’re absolutly right.. We already have the odds stacked against us for progressing amid the corruption, violence, and general chaos...if addictions start to kick in more, all efforts will be futile, ..lost.

Hi Oscar, and I hope you’re well.
I find this article particularly interesting. And tragic.
It shows that if anyone thought that drug money was tolerable because it came from American and European and ”foreign” addiction only, this article shows that it’s payback time.
The unfortunate truth is that, unless Mexico (with the help of others, notably other consumer countries) beats this problem, Mexicans will die in far greater numbers than the others, and, if this continues, the consequences for MEXICANS, and THEIR country, will be catastrophic. I’m not just talking about the localised effect of internal drug wars.
This is fast becoming much more than an issue of drug-peddling and money-laundering and politico/financial considerations.
It’s becoming an issue of Mexico’s survival as a modern and progressive nation.
My thoughts are for your country.
