Mexico: Learning to fly

Almost one hundred years ago Mexican President Porfirio Diaz bathed in self pity lamented our nation’s economic demise by giving the now famous quote:

¡Pobre Mexico! ¡Tan lejos de Dios y tan cerca los Estados Unidos!
Poor Mexico! So far from God and so close to the United States!
– Porfirio Díaz (Presidente, 1884-1911)

Porfirio Diaz was a mastered cunning politician and knew very well how to manipulate all people to his advantage. A phrase used to describe the order of his rule was “Pan, o Palo” (”bread, or the stick”), meaning that one could either accept what was given willingly, or face harsh consequences. A century later, our country still rules and is ruled very much by the same mentality. Society is expected to accept the stale, meager crumbs tossed out by our ruling elite and our government still grasps wildly, in desperate attempts to ride America’s tail, while accepting their conditional crumbs.

The poverty and economic crisis Mexico has suffered is by no fault of America, but by the hands of our own ruling elite who treated common, hard working citizens as worthless, hindering slaves. The immigration agreement made between governments has allowed our nation to turn a blind eye to the much needed creation and reforms of education, social programs, health care, and employment opportunities.

If the U.S. sneezes, Mexico catches pneumonia. If Mexico has pneumonia, it leaves it leaves everyone of it’s citizens with complete uncertainty.”

Mexico has had in the past and continues to have more than enough resources to create over time a thriving, independent nation. It is time to dust off our wings, extend, leap, and learn to fly once again. Our nation deserves the stability that can only be found within our own. The education of our children and opportunities for our poverty stricken adults must be of maximum importance. Our wealthy elite must realize we are at the end of the road, not even they could survive the crushing blows of a fallen state.

May our country allow for once, socioeconomic divides to blur, as we work together as one nation to become indivisible, not far from God, but once again under God’s grace.

May our great nation not only take flight, but soar once again, in independent, functionable, progressive glory.

I am constantly blown away by all kinds of similarities between Mexico and Egypt. Do you think both countries realize it?
I understand what you mean very well...but you know what I think? Mexico is not far from God..on the contrary, it’s a country full of faith and its culture is very close to people’s hearts and beliefs. It’s not abandoned, it’s just temporarily sided, I think sometimes soon, hopefully in our lifetime, things may just change around.
