Mexico's Attorney General Resigns

I have to admit, just like years ago when I saw the movie The Sixth Sense, I just didn’t see it coming.

President Calderon announced on Monday drastic changes to his Presidential Cabinet, among them was the resignation of Mexico’s Attorney General and right hand man in Mexico’s war against drug cartels, Eduardo Medina Mora.

“The strategy for recovering the public’s security and the tactic of changing the way things were have been correct. Progress has unquestionably been made.

The historic decision to use all the power of the state to put a stop to the power of the criminal organisations was fundamental to ensure our future as a nation.

History will have to recognise the correctness and valour of this decision.”

-Eduardo Medina Mora

No official reason was given for Medina Mora’s departure, but Calderon thanked him for his “brave work“. Collegues close to the attorney general say he had been looking to step down from what is perhaps the most difficult and dangerous job in Mexico’s government for some time.

“His professionalism, his commitment and loyalty to Mexico have been crucial in pushing forward the modernisation and the cleaning of the justice department and in hitting hard organised crime like we have done.”

-President Felipe Calderon

It is rumoured, President Calderon, now halfway thru his term and with a new PRI senate questioning his every move and demanding to know what progress has been made, is seeking fresh ideas and driving forces for his continued fight against the drug cartels.

Mexico would do well to get a better northern neighbor! A neighbor whose people would not finance the cartels.

Or, just let our neighbor become the hosts of these narco-monsters....Maybe it’s time to FORGET ABOUT LEGALIZING DRUGS and just legalize TRAFFICKING...

If our neighbor wants it so bad, let them deal with it all.

President Felipe Calderon gave no explanation for the Cabinet changes
Perhaps they have been threatened and decided it was better to not be murdered.

I’m sure the threats and his personal safety (and his familiy’s) has a great deal to do with his resignation...

It is rumoured he will be given a new ”foreign assignmant.”

You recieve threats, and every decision you make is satanized for the government oposition.
An ungrateful job.

I agree, a truely ungrateful job..

The constant threats and pressure would be enough to do any man in, add a most certain danger to his family and the fact he receives very little in return (Yes, fighting for the independence if Mexico is great..leaving a better country for our kids, grandkids and more is wonderful), but what about now? What about tomorrow?
