Most Wanted Drug Lord, Joaquin 'Shorty' Guzman, finally Found, In Forbes

For a man who is everywhere and nowhere and on the Most Wanted list in at least two countries, today must be overwhelming.

Joaquin Guzman Loera, who passes himself off as a wealthy farmer, is surely grinning from ear to ear, trembling, and weeping tears of nervous, unbelieving joy. After being on the run for more than eight years, he has been found; right onForbes Magazine 2009 Wealthiest People in the World list, No. 701.

Mexico’s most wanted man, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, is one of 38 new billionaires. -Forbes Magazine

In January of 2001, with all the drama of a Mexican telenovela, the infamous Sinaloa cartel leader, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán-Loera, escaped from Puente Grande, a Mexican maximum security prison in the state of Jalisco, where he was serving a twenty-year sentence and awaiting extradition to the U.S. for criminal association and bribery. It has been reported 78 people were involved in plotting his escape, using a prison laundry cart. He is currently on America’s and Mexico’s Most Wanted List, but as of yet authorities on both sides of the border have been unable to track him down. The U.S. government has offered a $5 million dollar reward for his capture. Forbes puts his net worth at approximately $1 billion dollars.

Recently, violence has ravaged Ciudad Juarez in drug wars taking place for strategic routes into the United States; Joaquin Guzman Loera is allegedly behind many of the killings that have taken place. The Sinaloa cartel has long been known to use deadly force against rivals who threaten their business of “shipping”, which is what Forbes lists Loera’s occupation as.

It’s a damn proud moment. As I type, I’m sure somewhere, in an unknown land, far, far away Guzman Loera is clearing a space on his mantle for his new Forbes crown; I’d almost bet it’ll be placed between his World’s Most Wanted Drug Trafficker and Most Powerful Cartel Kingpin trophies.

If I listen really hard, I can almost hear Shorty, from that same far, far away land, preparing his acceptance speech:

I’d like to thank my great state of Sinaloa, God, and my millions of fans and addicts across the United States of America; without you, I wouldn’t be here on Forbes today. I love you all, God Bless, and Keep Coking!

whats the point of so much money, when you cant go out in the public and show it off? I doubt he could ever roll around in a lambo on the streets.

What we really need to be asking ourselves is who the hell is he selling his wholesale drugs too? If he has 1 billion in profit, thats all from selling wholesale to the U.S. That's A LOT of weight to move. Breaking down that much product would take some serious connections in the U.S. Seriously, I cant remember the last time someone in the U.S. was convicted of smuggling in that type of weight.

We are already aiding the cartels by keeping marijuana illegal. Legalize marijuana and what the hell are they going to do? Allow honest Americans to grow quality marijuana legally, and everyone wins..

$1 billion according to Forbes, $12 billion according to Strafor...either way, somethings got to give.

Guzman-Loera (and other cartels) have managed to get Hundreds of thousands of TONS of drugs worth Hundreds of Billions of Dollars into the U.S....NO ONE can say the U.S. hasn’t been bought as well, unfortunatly NO ONE is willing to admit it..

Until BOTH sides face the truths and place our cards on the table, this ”war on drugs” is an absolute WASTE of time, money, and innocent lives.

This kind of people is making my country a war zone. Right now in Veracruz there is a wave of violence that keeps everyone in fear of being kidnapped, raped or even killed. I'm really worried about this situation at the point I'm thinking on leave the country with my family.

Isn’t that odd? I don’t think Joaquin ”Shorty” Guzman has his income posted on the ”NARCO KINGPIN PAYROLL REPORT”, but sure enough Forbes felt it necessary to post him as one of the 38 NEW billionaires in the world.

I agree...Seems to me, if you want to make cash, and loads of it...you just have to start up a shipping business.. Don’t worry about looking for global clients: The U.S. is all you’ll need.
