National Rifle Associates: Please Exhale, Obama will NOT renew the Assault Rifles Ban

National Rifle Associates, EXHALE, your UZI’s and .50 caliber recreational/hunting/home defense toys are all safe. President Obama, while visiting Mexico, did not agree to renew the assault rifle ban. You will no longer need to keep repeating:

“It’s not 90% of U.S. weapons that are smuggled into Mexico and used by the narcos, only 17%, the rest come from Russia, China, Colombia, and their own law enforcement agencies.”

For the record, although I don’t own a gun,(They are, for the most part, illegal here. It is possible to purchase some arms, but extremely costly and time consuming to aquire a permit, so I just collect machetes, rocks, and sticks for home security, hunting, and recreational target practice)I do see your concern in protecting your family.

The whole thing does open all new doors to my American wife. I’ve already bookmarked the Bushmaster home defense and recreational catalog page for her. Although she can’t own one here, if she’d ever like to invest in a sweet piece to keep at her childhood home for when we visit, she’d be thrilled to know she can legally shoot 30-60 tin cans a minute with night vision from 500-800 meters. Besides, the practice would come in handy if she ever wanted to join the military, a cartel, or shoot down a jet (just for recreational purposes of course.)

President Obama did make a solid offer to renew focus and enforce existing gun laws, which now seems to have many gun owners fearing for their fourth amendment rights, protecting them from unlawful search and seizure. I won’t even get into that, it just seems some gun owners will never be happy.

I hope enforcing present American gun laws will include the reading of gun permit applications. It’s a sad day, when a 10 month old recieves a F.O.I.D.card from the state of Illinois. I’d hate to think American babies could be used as straw buyers and gun smugglers. That would just be so, well, just not right. Bubba and his friends should never have to worry about such responsibilities at such a tender age.

I can’t say I will ever understand the need to own an UZI, AR-15, or .50 caliber, but if your nation’s laws allow it, who am I to complain. I don’t think it is correct to prohibit an item in one country due to another country’s misuse or abuse of said item. I know I would be really pissed off if tacos were suddenly made illegal here in Mexico just because Gringos were getting fat and having heart attacks because of them.

So again, hunters, militants, N.R.A. members, and common run of the mill Psychopaths, let me repeat: We’ve all heard and understand your need to carry your own persoanl weapon of mass destruction; afterall, you can’t carry a cop in your pocket.

President Obama has done no harm in Mexico, Your bazookas are safe, exhale and enjoy.

Loopholes in the existing laws are resulting in the smuggling of weapons from US to Mexico. There is a need to change these laws.

I agree. I think if existing laws are reviewed and enforced, combines with cooperative border inspections on both sides, we would see a decrease in American weapons, but that is not to say Mexican cartels would be gun free.

The cartels have the money to get what they what from where they want and when they want it...They get automatic weapons from all over the world. We must secure all Mexican perimeters and ports.

’although I don’t own a gun’. Generally the phrase that synonymous with people who don’t support lawful gun ownership in general. I’m not a bible beating, bush hugging yahoo from Texas. In fact, I disapprove strongly of all three. I’m not a republican either. But I am a law abiding gun owner who does own several of these scary ’assault weapons’. First off, you can’t legally own an actual assault rifle without a special permit. Both the permit and actual cost of a real assault rifle are prohibitively expensive. I have neither. I became a strong supporter of gun rights when I actually had to use one to thwart a break-in at 2 a.m. I have a feeling a machete would have been less than adequate against two criminals. Were they armed? I wouldn’t know as they bolted as soon as I pulled back the reciever. The purpose of the 2nd amendment is not to preserve hunting rights, but for personal protection whether it be from a tyrannical government, or perhaps the situation I had to face. It’s also there to keep the other amendments in tact. There will always be people off their rocker who should not own a gun and unfortunately do use them to kill people. The vast majority of gun crimes commited though are not by people who own these scary ’assault weapons’, but by criminals who can’t legally own one in the first place. The country with the most assault weapons anywhere is Switzerland. Each individual is required to keep his army-issued personal weapon. There are over 420,000 privately owned REAL assault rifles. With all these dangerous and scary guns floating around, people must be shooting each other left and right! Well, to put things in perspective, in 2006 there were 34 killings or attempted killings involving firearms. To put things in further perspective, in comparison, there were 69 cases involving bladed weapons and 16 cases of unarmed assault. That’s right, more than twice as many people were killed or injured by kitchen knifes than guns.

Matt:

I do not oppose owning guns legally, I think the type of guns that are legal are a little odd, (I’m well aware they are not fully automatic and the ”scarey” look has nothing to do with the punch it may or not pack.)

I have done more research and I DOunderstand that ammending this Right could very well open the door for other/any/all rights to be ammended as well.

My point is neither here nor their. What your government says is okay, obviously is none of my or my country’s business. I, personally, do not see it correct for one country to request another to forbid and item for another..

But, I do think it important for both countries that gun laws that are already in place be enforced, no more no less.
