An enormous coffin was made special for the tragic death of the half ton, Jose Luis Garza from Juarez, Mexico. The funeral was delayed as cemetary workers worked feverishly to accomodate the man and his burial coffin.

Obesity is a very serious problem here, I feel sorry for the man and angered at the negligence surrounding his death which could have been avoided.

I do feel it is sad, but don’t see the negligence.

Hi Oscar! I feel so sorry for this guy and I agree with Eva. How was he allowed to commit suicide in front of the whole world like that? Why didn’t anyone help him? Nice post. Thanks....

I don’t want to come out as evil, but why is it the state’s fault? Why didn’t HIS FAMILY get him to a hospital?

Many people need help here..I feel sad for the man’s death, but it wasn’t the states fault...Why didn’t his family give him the support he nedded before he weighed 992 lbs? Doesn’t a family have a responsibilty to help their own members?

Everybody’s always looking to put blame on a higher authority. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to be held responsible for anything–even our own weight. It is tragic, because at the end of the day, he needed help from the people closest to him, and judging from the size of the hole in the ground, didn’t get it.

That is what I feel..It aggravates me, the whole issue...the lack of personal responsibility, neglect, the lives lost, lack of family support..etc

That's very, very sad indeed. I wonder what makes some of the Mexicans the world's most obese people. Anyway, José Luis Garza should have taken a leaf out of Manuel Uribe's book on how to control diet. He, I believe was his friend.

Four days back there was this report on Garza and how he sought help and was offered the same by another heavyweight by Uribe. Garza was totally unlucky.

Sad story ended on an even sadder note. I hope Manuel Uribe survives and since he is getting married soon I wish he is fit and fine when he finally becomes a father. Garza should have got emergency help from the community or the government.

Rama...
I feel for Jose Luis and His family, but the government were NOT at fault. He goes on tv a week (less than) earlier saying he should be helped and unfortunately dies shortly later, still in his home...His family and many are saying the government practically murdered him by neglecting his demands for the 5-6 days they did..They say he’d still be alive...what about them? He’d still be alive had they supported him before he got to be 992 pounds,,

I have recently submitted a post on this here in IB ..PLEASE HAVE A LOOK.

He was a total waste on himself, on his family and loved ones and the society. There would and should be a few tears shed on his death. His burial was also such a pain for those who had to carry out the last rites. Didn't he have any use for the glue factory?

While I never thought of a glue factory, not consider it now, the rest of your comment is similar to what was on my mind, when I wrote a post, here for IB, on the issue...have a look when you get a chance it’s called ”I’m fat, fix me, and while you’re at it...”

Thanks for your comment John..
Saludos
