The San Luis de Potosi State Congress in Mexico approved a measure Thursday reforming the State Constitution to protect the right to life of children from the moment of conception.
Representative Vicente Toledo Alvarez said the reform would ensure that the State’s Constitution clearly recognizes the right to life as the most basic of all human rights from the moment of conception.
San Luis de Potosi now becomes the twelfth Mexican state to enshrine protection for the unborn into its Constitution. The protections became necessary after Mexico City legalized abortion in some cases.
Before passage of the measure, Archbishop Luis Morales Reyes of San Luis Potosi said, “The Church has her principles and one of them is life. I am only stating that the Church protects and supports life and will always support life, regardless of the politics or laws of the moment.”
“God is the only owner of every life conceived by woman, and as such that life will always have rights, the most important of which is the right to life,” the archbishop said.

If San Luis Potosi decides to inact laws against abortion, it is within their right, but being as Church and State are independent, I find it wrong for the Church to continue it’s relentless war against women’s individual rights.
I do not wish to see children die. I do not wish to see abortion used as a simple means of birth control, but I also do not wish that women and girls to be forced to give birth.
I find it sickening for the Catholic Church to state:the Church protects and supports life and will always support life. Where is the Church when the fetuses are being poisened with drugs and alcohol? Where is the Church when the Mother is being beaten beyond recognition? Where’s the Church when these children, brought into this world against logical will, are found hungry, ill, and poverty stricken? Where is the Church’s protection and support when these children are starved, burned with cigarettes, and forced to work the streets?
The fact of the matter is abortion and it’s legalities cannot be seen in black or white. The Church, while leaning on individual states to create anti-abortion laws, is not insuring that these children are protected and supported.
They are not insuring even basic proper care such as nutrition, clothing, shelter, and education. They are definitly not insuring or protecting children from the very harsh realities of a world where no one will ever truely insure protection and support; especially not the Church.

Why doesn’t the church start by protecting and help the ones who have ALREADY been born and are in need, or does it not matter once they pass thru the birth canal?
